Strasbourg
Optimised Latency Toward Frankfurt, Paris And Central Europe From The Rhine Plain
Strasbourg holds a strategically distinctive position on the Franco-German border, within a two-hour drive of Frankfurt, Paris and Zurich. This makes it a natural anchoring point for organisations seeking to serve French, German and broader Central European markets simultaneously with controlled latency. As the seat of the European Parliament and several EU institutions, the city sustains a dense economic fabric that drives sustained demand for IT infrastructure. Strasbourg's datacenter ecosystem includes several colocation facilities, with a notable European cloud presence operating multiple on-site campuses. Infrastructure benefits from multi-carrier connectivity with international carriers present, a local internet exchange point (Strasbourg Internet eXchange), and close proximity to Frankfurt's major IXPs including DE-CIX. The optical fibre routes connecting Paris to Frankfurt cross the Alsatian plain, giving operators access to redundant, low-latency paths. French regulatory requirements apply in full, including GDPR obligations and provisions of the Military Programming Law for operators of critical importance. ISO 27001 and HDS certifications are available on select facilities for workloads requiring healthcare data hosting compliance.

Climate
Strasbourg has a semi-continental climate with cold winters (January average around 2°C) and warm summers (July average around 20°C). The pronounced annual temperature range, typical of the Rhine plain, supports free cooling for a significant part of the year, with favourable conditions from September through May. Relative humidity is moderate in summer, though the city records a notable number of fog days in autumn and winter. Well-designed facilities can leverage indirect free cooling to achieve PUE values below 1.3.
Transport
Strasbourg-Entzheim International Airport (SXB) is approximately 17 km from the city centre, reachable in around 20 minutes by motorway or 9 minutes by rail shuttle from the central station. Strasbourg station is a major rail hub with direct TGV services to Paris (1h45), Frankfurt and several European capitals. The road network is structured around the A35/M35 (Alsace north-south corridor), the A4 (Paris-Strasbourg), and the A355 western bypass. Access to the German A5 motorway network is available via Rhine crossings.
