Apple Inc.
Apple’s content delivery network relies on AS6185, listed in PeeringDB as a global ‘Content’ network. Its entry points to Apple Inc.’s AS714 for all peering requests. The routing plan comprises approximately 10,000 IPv4 prefixes and 1,000 IPv6 prefixes, with traffic being predominantly outbound. This infrastructure distributes app downloads, software updates, iCloud data and music streaming. It does so via caches located around the world, which bring content closer to users and minimise latency.
Apple classifies its peering policy as selective in PeeringDB, with no ratio requirements or contracts, provided that the applicant maintains an up-to-date PeeringDB listing. The company regularly announces the opening of sessions at internet exchange points such as DE-CIX, France-IX or ESPANIX. Operators and internet service providers can also host an Apple Edge Cache within their own network via a dedicated portal. The scope is that of a content network: direct peering and embedded caches, for operators and access networks.
