Arteria

Arteria’s network is based on approximately 25,000 kilometers of fiber-optic cables installed along the high-voltage lines of the French electricity transmission grid, as well as tens of thousands of towers capable of supporting telecommunications equipment. A wholly owned subsidiary of RTE, Arteria has been leveraging the excess capacity of this energy infrastructure—which was historically designed for internal use—since 2002. Its WDM backbone, known as AirForceWan, connects Lyon to Toulouse at 1 Tbit/s, featuring an automatic optical switching system that instantly reroutes traffic in the event of an incident. The services offered by Arteria include dark fiber for telecom operators, local governments, and industrial companies, as well as ultra-high-speed wireless links (waves) of up to 400G along routes that are often unprecedented, away from the conventional paths used by traditional operators. The company also provides high-point locations for mobile antennas and is developing a hosting offering for IT and telecom operator applications. This diversity of routes enhances the resilience of backhaul networks, with low latency.
