Grenoblix

Operational since April 2011 and officially inaugurated in January 2013, GrenoblIX is the Internet exchange point (IXP) for the Grenoble metropolitan area, managed by the Rezopole association with support from Grenoble-Alpes Métropole and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The infrastructure is based on two separate sites: Grenoblix 1, housed in the Cogent data center, and Grenoblix 2, located in an eco-friendly data center operated by the Eolas Group that uses water from the local aquifer for cooling. Members connect via 10/100/1000 Mbit/s copper or 1/10 Gbit/s fiber links. GrenoblIX also functions as a NAP (Network Access Point), that is, a marketplace where users can buy or sell Internet transit and various IP services. Its services are aimed at Internet service providers, telecom operators, web hosting providers, e-commerce sites, large private companies, and public entities that wish to exchange their traffic locally rather than routing it through Paris, London, or Amsterdam. This local interconnection reduces latency and bandwidth costs for critical services.
