With a presence in nearly every region of the world through Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, Meta operates a global network built to support the distribution of its content. Its infrastructure is based on several autonomous systems, including AS32934 for the core network, supplemented by ASNs dedicated to content delivery at the edge. The company has helped build more than twenty submarine cables, including 2Africa, which connects several continents over approximately 45,000 kilometers, and is now investing in new ocean corridors through the Project Waterworth initiative. Thanks to an open peering policy, Meta interconnects directly with operators, internet service providers, and internet exchange points around the world, limiting its reliance on paid transit to route its traffic. This architecture combines an international network core with several hundred points of presence at the edge, which bring content closer to users and reduce latency—sometimes by more than 100 milliseconds, depending on the regions served. The capacity deployed across its submarine cables and IXP interconnections makes Meta a significant player in the global ecosystem of interconnection and content distribution.
