Bordeaux
Transatlantic Subsea Landing Point With Direct Low-latency Access To North America
Bordeaux has established itself as one of Western Europe's emerging digital infrastructure locations on the Atlantic coastline. The landing of the Amitié subsea cable at Bruges, on the immediate outskirts of the city, creates a direct 6,800 km link to the United States with a 400 Tbps capacity and a latency of approximately 34 ms to the US East Coast. This positions Bordeaux as a distinct alternative to Northern Europe's traditional hubs, offering an autonomous transatlantic route bypassing congested nodes such as London or Amsterdam. The local datacenter ecosystem has grown around this anchor point. Multiple operators offer colocation services across rack, cage and private suite formats, supported by multi-source power infrastructure drawing on France's national grid, predominantly nuclear-based. Industrial electricity costs approximately €0.18/kWh. Over ten carriers are present in the metropolitan area, and facilities maintain dedicated connectivity to the Parisian ecosystems. A major high-performance computing infrastructure project targeting a 2028 commissioning date further signals the territory's growing appeal for AI and hyperscale workloads. The applicable regulatory framework is French law and EU GDPR. ISO 27001 and HDS certifications are available at select facilities, addressing requirements in healthcare and sensitive data segments.

Climate
Bordeaux's oceanic climate features average temperatures of 5-7 °C in January and 19-21 °C in July-August (peaks up to 28 °C). Free cooling is viable for a significant part of the year, particularly from October through May, supporting competitive PUE values. Exceptional summer heatwaves can exceed 35 °C, requiring appropriately sized cooling systems. Winter relative humidity is high (around 80-85 %), while July conditions (approximately 63 % humidity) are favorable for heat exchanger efficiency.
Transport
Bordeaux-Mérignac International Airport (BOD) is located approximately 12 km west of the city center, with direct connections to major European cities. Bordeaux Saint-Jean station serves Paris-Montparnasse in 2 hours by TGV, as well as Lille, Strasbourg, and regional destinations across Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Four motorway corridors converge on the metropolitan area: A10 (Paris/North), A62 (Toulouse/Mediterranean), A63 (Spain/Basque Country) and A89 (Lyon/Southeast).
